To pursue her goals, Karina began crossing the border daily to study in El Paso, Texas. This routine required sacrifice and resilience. At age 18, she moved permanently to the U.S., where she faced the challenges of adapting to a new language, culture, and school system. However, rather than holding her back, the experience fueled her ambition.
Finding Strength in Hardship
In 2009, amid a surge of violence in Juรกrez, Karina decided to stay in El Paso for good. Eventually, she brought her parents to live with her. Despite her youth, she remained focused and transformed her home into a space for learning and growth.
One of the most defining moments in her life came when her father was diagnosed with cancer. She spent long hours in hospital waiting rooms, where she witnessed both the emotional toll of illness and the powerful influence of compassionateโor dismissiveโhealthcare providers. That experience revealed her calling.
Turning Compassion Into a Career
Karina first pursued nursing. Later, she earned her medical degree, driven by a desire to change the healthcare experience. During her clinical rotations, especially in intensive care units, she often felt discouraged by the lack of empathy she saw in some physicians. Yet that frustration gave her purpose. She set out to provide care grounded in ethics, quality, and compassion.
After working in hospitals and completing her masterโs degree under the mentorship of Dr. Armendรกriz, Karina made a bold decision. She opened her own practice with the mission to redefine patient care.
