To celebrate and amplify the cultural and social life of our region—and beyond—by publishing thoughtful, high-quality journalism that informs, connects, and contributes meaningfully to our community.
To be a leading voice in the cultural landscape of our region, fostering local, national, and international connections through high-quality content and a strong editorial commitment to the arts, identity, and community.
At Border Heritage, we value respect, inclusion, and education in our community. We grow through honesty, responsibility, and support, and our team works with initiative, precision, and accountability. These values shape everything we do.
Born from a dream, built through resilience.
Border Heritage was founded in 2015 by Carmen Becerra, whose vision was shaped by the vibrant, complex culture of the border region—specifically, the twin cities of Ciudad Juárez and El Paso, Texas. After years of covering stories that often went untold and underappreciated, she imagined a publication that would give voice to the artists, thinkers, and everyday people who define life on both sides of the border.
But that dream didn’t come easy.
Before the first issue could go to print, she spent years building trust in the community, forging connections with local creatives, securing sponsors, and cultivating a readership that believed in the power of regional storytelling.
With just two employees by her side, the magazine weathered the toughest years of the pandemic—never missing a chance to spotlight resilience, creativity, and culture during a time when hope was hard to come by.
Today, our magazine stands as a living archive and an evolving platform. We highlight border culture without borders—blurring lines between nations, languages, and artistic expressions. We continue to grow, but our mission remains rooted in authenticity, community, and storytelling with purpose.
Welcome to our story.
Since our founding, our magazine has aimed to do more than just tell stories—we strive to make a real impact on the border region we call home.
We are proud to have been nominated for the prestigious Torch Award (La Torcha), a recognition of our unwavering commitment to ethics in the workplace. This honor reflects our belief that journalism must be accountable, transparent, and rooted in truth.
Beyond the newsroom, our work uplifts the local economy. Every year, we help hundreds of small and mid-sized businesses across Ciudad Juárez and El Paso gain visibility through creative advertising and community-focused campaigns. From neighborhood shops to regional brands, we provide a platform for local entrepreneurship to thrive.
Our influence also extends into the civic space. While we maintain strict nonpartisan values, we have proudly collaborated on marketing strategies for various political campaigns, helping candidates communicate more effectively with their communities—always with journalistic independence at the core of what we do.
At every step, journalistic integrity guides us. We don’t chase headlines—we amplify voices. We don’t follow trends—we reflect the culture. And we don’t take sides—we serve the truth.
This is our impact, and it’s just the beginning.
